How We Care
Responsive care built around relationships, development, and the child in front of me.

Tiny Vines is relationship-centered, child-led, sensory-aware, and guided by each child’s individual development and needs.
Care is calm, responsive, and flexible within a predictable daily rhythm. The goal is not to move every child through the day in exactly the same way, but to create a secure environment where children can build trust, explore, practice new skills, and receive support at their own pace.

Connection Comes First
Children are more able to explore when they first feel secure and understood.
For infants and young toddlers, relationships are the foundation of the day. Children learn through repeated experiences with caregivers who respond consistently, notice their cues, and help them feel safe.
At Tiny Vines, connection comes before pressure for independence. That means taking time to build trust, responding to distress with calm presence, supporting children through transitions, and communicating respectfully even when limits need to be set.
Because the program is intentionally small, I have time to learn the little things that help each child feel comfortable — how they show they are tired, what helps them settle, what makes them laugh, and when something feels different from usual.

Child-Led Play & Learning
In the early years, play is learning.
Young children learn by touching, moving, repeating, observing, experimenting, and participating in everyday life. Rather than rushing children toward academic milestones, Tiny Vines focuses on the developmental foundations that support later learning.
Children are given meaningful time to:
Children are encouraged to practice new skills, but they are not rushed through milestones or compared with other children.
explore materials at their own pace
practice problem-solving
build language and communication
develop coordination and movement
experiment with cause and effect
repeat activities until they feel familiar

Montessori-inspired, not Montessori-directed
Tiny Vines is inspired by Montessori principles but is not a Montessori program. I blend Montessori-informed practices with relationship-based care.
Prepared environment with real, child-friendly materials
Freedom within clear, respectful limits
Independence supported, never forced
Respect for each child's natural developmental timeline
Mixed-age learning and community
Individual connection at the center

Why Play Matters in Early Childhood
A short resource from First 5 California
A simple explanation of why play is such an important part of early learning.
At Tiny Vines, play-based learning is part of every day.
Through play, children build skills, explore the world, and grow in confidence.

Big Feelings & Supportive Guidance
Behavior is communication.
Infants and toddlers don't yet have the language, impulse control, or emotional skills to manage every feeling on their own. What we see as behavior is often a child's way of saying they need help, not punishment.
I respond with empathy and consistency to help children feel safe, understood, and supported.
Guidance at Tiny Vines may include:
calm redirection
clear, respectful limits
naming feelings and experiences
modeling language and social skills
co-regulation and physical reassurance
offering sensory or environmental support
helping children repair interactions when they are ready

Supporting Individual Development
Children grow on different timelines.
Development in the early years is rarely perfectly even. A child may be advanced in one area while needing more time or support in another.
Tiny Vines does not expect children of the same age to sleep, eat, communicate, move, socialize, or regulate themselves in exactly the same way.
Care is adjusted when possible based on:
developmental stage
temperament
communication style
sleep and feeding needs
current interests
comfort with transitions
emerging independence

Sensory-Aware Care
I support each child’s unique sensory needs by creating an environment that helps them feel safe and regulated.
Calmer spaces for rest and reset
Predictable transitions
Opportunities for movement and sensory exploration
Reduced unnecessary stimulation
Familiar routines and extra time when needed
